What makes this jacket different from most, is the story behind the insulation. Lavalon Wool is made from traceable European wool, is 100% washable, and produced in Germany. Lavalon wool is made from a blend of Virgin Wool (82%) and Polylactide (18%). Polylactide (PLA) is a corn based, biodegradable fiber, that makes the wool stronger and more durable. The wool and corn-based PLA is bonded together using heat (thermobonded) and then needled flat, creating a denser and more abrasion resistant insulation layer. Lavalon wool is great for high energy activities, again due its ability to thermoregulate. It can release moisture vapor up to 36% of its dry weight, and be water repellant (hydrophobic) at the same time. Wool wicks away odor causing bacteria, which keeps you smelling fresh and also prevents unnecessary wash cycles.
We added a cinch hood and hidden waist cinchs in hand pockets to keep draft out. The Shonkin is packable in left chest, for travel and a pillow in a pinch. The Shell is 100% Nylon and treated with a Nonfluorinated DWR treatment for water repellancy.
